Evangelisation |
|
|
|
The Church is at the service of the Kingdom of God. It exists to
continue the mission of Jesus Christ and to evangelize by
proclaiming to all people the ‘Good News” of their salvation
accomplished in Jesus Christ.
Without the Church community, especially the parish and the individual
Christian, evangelization is simply not possible. The Church community
is the primary agent of evangelization.
But for parishes to become agents of evangelization they must
themselves be educated in their faith. In the words of Pope Paul VI
“The church is an evangelizer but she begins by being evangelized
herself.” Thus a deeply evangelized community becomes a strongly
evangelizing community.
The need for members of the faith community to be educated in their
faith if they are themselves to evangelise explains the Church’s
insistence on the importance of Adult Faith Education, Liturgical
formation, Youth work, and the religious education of children in
Catholic and government schools.
It is the task of the Pastoral office to provide educational and
resource support to parishes as they fulfill their mission to proclaim
the Gospel.
