The original St Patrick’s was completed in 1921 and became an iconic landmark on the hill overlooking Bunbury - a place where everyone could find solace, comfort and a sense of God’s presence when they needed it most.

Rich in history and heritage, St Patrick’s played a vital role in the spiritual and social fabric of Bunbury, and the wider regional communities across southern Western Australia.  At the time of its destruction, St Patrick’s was the spiritual inspiration of a wide range of essential community services offered by the Catholic Church.

The new Cathedral precinct will ensure that the Diocese can commit itself fully once again to meeting the diverse needs of people throughout the community.

The needs of so many across rural communities today are unmistakable.  The hole in Bunbury’s heart must be filled for the benefit of the entire community now, and for many centuries to come.

“The Cathedral holds a special place in the hearts and souls of thousands of locals who have grown up with the impressive site of the beautiful building standing proud on a hill at the southern end of the CDB”
